With more than half of September behind us, we're well on our way to autumn! We have already begun to feel the cooler temperatures lurking in and our summer clothes are no longer doing the job! Its that time ladies..time to switch over to our fall wardrobes!
It's safe to say that fall fashion is by far my favorite; boots, sweaters, leggings, scarves..everything is so cozy and textured! However, you can't truly appreciate a new fall season without a few new items in your closet…am I right ladies? I think so; that's why I've created a collage of the top five MUST HAVE items for your fall 2016 wardrobe! THEY ARE 1.) Open-toed boots and booties: Get your pedicures ready girls cuz' this fall is all about showing off those tootsies! From ankle booties to thigh-high boots, the open-toe trend is a must! They serve as a perfect transitional shoe and with so many textures like suede, leather and lycra, they look amazing dressed up or down with any outfit!
2.) Moto Jackets:
A sleek and edgy way to stay warm in the cooler temps, moto jackets serve their need without sacrificing a great outfit. They look amazing over a dress or with a T-shirt & jeans. You can leave the sleeves long or scrunch them up to the elbow for a sportier look. With a moto jacket this season, you can't go wrong!
3.) Cold shoulder Sweaters:
There's nothing I love much more than a nice knit sweater, but I've always found it challenging to feel comfy without looking like potato sack! Luckily there's a new fun and feminine option to throw on this season; "cold shoulder" sweaters! Finally a sweater that we can pair with any bottom and still look fabulous! The cut-outs give added interest & offer more of a silhouette compared to your boring old sweater..GENIUS!
4.) Velvet:
Velvet is such an old-school classic fabric & this year it has been re-birthed into one of the most loved trends for fall 2016! From pants to tops, to bodysuits & even boots, its everywhere & I'm loving it! You can add sophistication and elegance to any look day or night, and the best part is, it comfortable! (BONUS!)
5.) Military Blazers:
The blazer is back and better than ever! With double breasted buttons, structured shoulders & embellishments, military inspired blazers are a staple this season! They are available in colors like army green, navy blue, and kaki so they're extremely versatile. Wear them over a nice silk blouse or just a simple cotton tank with jeans and still look sharp!
Your bedroom is one of the most used rooms in your house. It is your sanctuary and the place you retreat after a long day, yet often the bedroom becomes one of the messiest rooms in the house. Shoes are kicked off day after day creating a cluttered mess, clothes take over the space after one night of not deciding on an outfit, and hair supplies are in every drawer and cubby. It is understandable how the bedroom turns into this nightmare, but it is possible to turn this bad habit around, and create an organized and beautiful space for you to relax in. It is important to value what your bedroom does for you, and keep it as organized as possible. If you transition your thoughts from thinking the bedroom is just another room in the house, to thinking of it as an escape and relaxing sanctuary it will help you maintain control of the clutter.
Try out these 5 tips to keep your bedroom organized and beautiful: 1.) BEFORE YOU GO TO BED:
2.) CREATE SYSTEMS:
3.) DECOR:
4.) NIGHTSTAND ROUTINE:
5.) SUNDAY CLEANING:
Your relationship with your significant other is one of the most important things in your life, but so many times it becomes neglected. Whether you are dating someone, or married for years it is important to simplify your relationship and remember the purpose of being together. It takes work to ensure your relationship is at its best! This doesn't mean it is hard and tiring, but it means you have to dedicate time to nurturing it. Say no to anything that doesn't add happiness to your relationship, and focus on things that bring you closer together and strengthen you as a couple.
Here are 5 ways to organize your relationship which will lead to more love, lots of kisses, and a ton of happiness! 1.) Plan ahead I have seen so many couples that haven't had a date night in months, or can't remember the last time they did something fun together. This doesn't have to be the status quo for being in a relationship. Pull your calendar out, and plan in advance. Look at the month ahead, and plan as many date nights as you can! Even one date is better than no date nights at all. This one simple step can drastically change your relationship for the better. 2.) As long as you are together People are busier then ever these days, so it may not always be possible to go on many adventures and fancy date nights, but thats ok! It's more important to have quality time together. Plan movie night, brunch at a cute local cafe, or a romantic night of cooking dinner together. It doesn't have to be anything extravagant. The most important thing is to set aside time to simply be together. 3.) SAY NO! So many people hate saying no, but your happiness is more important than trying to please everyone. My boyfriend and I care very much for our family and friends, and want to be part of the events and celebrations in their lives, but this doesn't mean we have to attend every single invitation. Sometimes it is ok to stay home and not be part of every social event. You need to ask yourself, " Is it more important to make everyone else happy and say yes all the time, or to nurture my relationship and say no when we need time to ourselves?" A great compromise is to attend the event, but let them know you can only stay a few hours. This way you are able to spend time with your loved ones, but leave early enough to spend time together. 4.) Open communication Do not harbor things inside of you. Be open with your partner on how you feel about your relationship. If you harbor things inside, you will eventually start to resent the other person and that is a recipe for disaster! Do not cast blame or start an ugly fight, but sit down with your significant other and let them know you miss them and you really want to work on spending more quality time together. 5.) Delegate I often hear couples refer to the same routine in their life - " They have a long busy day at work, come home to a house full of chores and things to do, eat dinner and then its time to go to bed and start again. And weekends end up being the time to catch up on more house chores." I am not going to sugar coat it. Life gets hectic and sometimes extremely overwhelming! This is why it is important to outsource some things. Can you hire a babysitter to watch the kids one night a week so you can enjoy date night ? Can you hire a local college student to buy your groceries allowing you an extra couple hours with the family? Can you hire an assistant at work so your workload is less stressful allowing you to come home happier and ready to spend time with your significant other? Imagine how much more time you could have together as a couple if you outsourced just 5 hours worth of things a week. You could spend an entire Saturday together!
Although to do lists are a traditional idea, most people still do not do them. I don’t think you should be bogged down by never ending lists, but I do believe they are essential to having a productive day. In business, your mind constantly has a million things running through it. A to do list allows your brain to feel less overwhelmed. On Sunday make a “Master To Do List” for the week. List everything you would like to accomplish in the week to come. Use this list as a reference during the week.
With your “Master To Do List” in hand, you can now prepare every night before bed, or early in the morning. If you are a night person (like me) write your to do list before you go to bed. Write down the top three most important things you have to get done and label them A – B – C. This is what you should focus on above anything else. Nothing should get started before A–B-C are checked off. After your top three things, write down everything else you would like to get done. If you are a morning person, you can write this list as soon as you wake up so you are ready to conquer your day! My brain tends to go into overdrive at night, so I like getting everything down on paper and waking up refreshed knowing I can start my day with a plan. When running your business, you will feel like a circus juggler managing everything and anything. To do lists are a great way to begin to live an organized life as you climb your way toward success!
The infamous junk drawer! Somehow it ends up in every home, which is why I help my clients learn how to utilize the junk drawer instead of trying to get rid of it all together. Junk drawers get a bad rep because you usually can’t open them, and they become a bottomless pit of junk. Instead, think of this drawer as a useful way to store your miscellaneous items. Here are some tips to make your junk drawer functional:
If you’re discontent and feeling dissatisfied with your life, you’re not alone. Many people experience ebbs and flows throughout their daily routines, but most will shrug off the feelings believing that they will eventually ware off—they do. But unfortunately, unless you get the root of the problem, those feelings are bound to return over and over again.
Try imagining your life as a wheel with several points: organization, spirituality, health, hobbies, goals, relationships and career. In order for the wheel to function properly, each point must be well-maintained. You owe it to yourself and your mental well-being to determine which point or points you feel you’re missing or not focusing on so you are able to better balance your wheel. For instance, you may be killing it career wise, but that extra time you’ve been putting in at work may mean you have less time for your social life. This imbalance may now have you feeling disconnected from your friends or family and leave you feeling sad or lonely. By consciously understanding and paying attention to each of the points on your life’s wheel, you can begin to maintain and manage each one to help yourself achieve a more fulfilling and happier life. Get Organized Most people don’t enjoy the monotony of cleaning their home or office, but let’s be honest, when things are clean and organized, you feel pretty great, right? Your home is meant to be your sanctuary from the outside world, a place you can be at peace, and there’s nothing peaceful about a messy, disorganized home. Of course, keeping your home clean and organized is easier said than done as life is busy, but if you set aside some of your free time to organize one section of your home at a time, not only will it make you feel more at peace, it will be easier to keep your home clean. Get Spiritual Whether you practice your spirituality through religion, meditation, or yoga, believing in a higher power allows you to connect with something bigger and greater than yourself. Not only will it help you search for the deeper meanings of life and life’s purpose, it can also create a great source of comfort in times of need. Get Healthy What I mean by saying “get healthy” is to work on incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your diet and to add more physical activity into your day-to-day life. This doesn’t mean you have to do without snacks, or go on a diet, it simply means finding a balance between your wants and needs. Get Busy Whether you like to hike, read, fish, etc. your hobbies are what help to keep you grounded. Unfortunately, whenever life gets busy, hobbies seem to be the first thing that gets pushed to the back burner. And while sometimes pushing off your hobbies may be necessary—especially if you have kids or a grueling work schedule—making a habit of this can cause you to feel burnt out. Don’t forget to make yourself and your happiness a priority. Get Your Goals Together If you have something you want to accomplish in your personal life or your career, you have goals. But how are you going about accomplishing said goals? Are you simply telling yourself what you want to achieve and hoping it happens, or are you mapping out the steps necessary to achieve your goals? For example, if a track runner decides he wants to win the next competition, that’s excellent, but just saying he wants to win isn’t going to be enough, he needs to map out his plan of action. A great way to do this is by setting up 30/60/90 day goals or short/mid/long-terms goals. In this example, the track runner may decide that his 30 day goal would be to train each day for a set amount of hours. His 60 day goal may be to run a specific distance in a specific amount of time. His 90 day goal, of course, would be to win the competition. Get Social This world can be a lonely place if you don’t have a social network you can confide in and spend time with. And, much like your hobbies, your friends, family, and lover will help to keep you grounded and happy. No matter how busy life gets, never forget to make time for the ones you love and the ones who love you. Get To Work I’m sure we’d all prefer sitting on the beach as opposed to sitting at an office desk, but the harsh reality is that we need money to survive in this world, and work takes up the majority of our day-to-day lives, so why not do something you love and enjoy? If you love your job, that’s great, keep doing your thing. If you hate your job and find yourself miserable every day then it’s time to sit down and really figure out your next move. There is no reason for you to spend 40 hours of your week hating what you do. Find something you’re passionate about and then take the time to pursue it. If you can’t stand your boss—leave. If others in your field are getting higher salaries at another company—switch! Life is all about balance, and if you want to live your best and happiest life, it’s important to learn how to manage all the different, yet important, aspects of it. So if you’re feeling unhappy, try to figure out which point on the wheel Feng shui is an ancient Chinese philosophy that focuses on the art of design. The idea is that all things—living or non-living—give off a certain energy, or “chi,” that combine with your own, affecting your thoughts, beliefs, and emotions. According to this philosophy, to obtain good chi, you want to create an atmosphere that will enhance and allow the energies in your home to flow freely. In order to do that, you’ll focus on color, decor, and furniture placement. The idea feng shui in your bedroom, for example, is to create a safe place for sleep, rest, intimacy, and the recharging of both the body and the spirit. So how do you create this atmosphere? Here are a few quick tips. Remove electronics Remove as many of the electronics from your bedroom as you possibly can. Electronics emit electromagnetic energy, which can disrupt your rest, health, and fertility. Get rid of clutter Get rid of all the unnecessary clutter you have in your bedroom. By getting rid of that clutter, you’re allowing the energy in your room to flow freely and easily. Move your bed Never place your bed directly in line with the door—this is known as the “dead mans position.” It symbolizes the way the dead are carried out of their home—feet first. Avoid placing the head of your bed against a wall that’s shared with a bathroom. And, since energy enters and leaves a room through it’s windows, never place the head of your bed against one. If you absolutely have to, make sure you have a solid headboard to block any new energy from rushing over you as you sleep. Move your furniture Arrange your room in a way that avoids having the corners of your furniture pointing towards your bed. Corners represent the points of an arrow and are thought to represent “killing” energy. Remove excess books Avoid having a large selection of books in your room as they are too stimulating. Avoid any water features Having water features in your room, like fish tanks and fountains, are considered to be unlucky and are said to lead to a loss of money. Pick your linens wisely Your linens should be a solid color. However, if you prefer patterns, avoid choosing any geometric, or angular designs. These patters are said to derive negative energy and can be disturbing to your rest. By incorporating feng shui into your home, you are both enhancing and balancing the energies that flow throughout it. It’s said that if you are able to achieve this balance, it will help to foster the improvement of each aspect of your life including, but not limited to, mood, health relationships, and finances.
